NIRA (WX9MCS Repeater Group) owns two amateur radio repeaters in Rockford, Illinois.
The VHF system is on 147.255mhz with a 114.8hz tone and is located on the west side of the tower at 460 feet. It consists of a Motorola MSF5000 and an Scom7330 controller.
The UHF system is on 444.725mhz with a 107.2hz tone and is located on the south side of a tower on the opposite side of Rockford at about 275 feet. It is also an MSF5000, but with an Scom 7k controller.
The repeaters are there to serve the amateur radio community. They serve as the local Skywarn and emergency service repeaters. Northern Illinois Skywarn holds nets on the systems during severe weather.
